What gives ozonation. The topic of ozonation has been getting louder and louder recently, mainly because it is more and more widely used. There are more and more offers for disinfecting offices, ozonizing apartments and ozonizing rooms for other purposes. This is also because equipment for consumer use appears on the market, i.e. equipment for which, in principle, no training or professional knowledge is needed.
When it comes to the knowledge that is needed for ozonation, it must of course be mentioned that saying that you do not need any professional knowledge does not mean that you do not need any knowledge. The main point here is that these devices are designed in such a way that their operation is maximally simplified, while anyone who would like to do it on their own should gain some knowledge so that their actions are, firstly, effective and, secondly, safe .
What does ozonation give us?
Before we tell ourselves at least generally what ozonation is, how it works and whether it is actually effective, we should think and talk about what ozonation actually gives us. Ozonation is a method of disinfection using a gas that we call ozone. Ozone is a triatomic oxygen molecule. It is an extremely chemically active gas, therefore, in contact with virtually any organic material, it immediately reacts with it. This causes its decomposition or conversion to another chemical compound.

These types of properties are used for disinfection, because if ozone encounters bacteria or a virus, it begins to react with molecules that build, for example, the shell of these microbes, which means that ozone simply kills them. Ozone is a gas so disinfection with it is, firstly, quite simple, and secondly, ozone is able to reach basically every nook and cranny, so precisely brought ozonation gives us very high efficiency in the fight against microbes. For example, it has been proven that ozone, compared to chlorine, which is currently one of the most popular disinfectants, works up to 500 times faster and 3000 times more effectively. In addition, using ozonation, we disinfect much easier and faster and we can carry out such disinfection more often.
How is it ozonated?
When we want to ozonise, the question arises, first of all, how to do it? Special devices are used for ozonation. They are ozonizers. Ozonators use the phenomenon of gas ionization in an electric arc. In such a device, an electric arc is generated and oxygen is passed through the electric arc. As a result of ionization of the gas, i.e. supplying it with an additional large amount of energy, oxygen forms ozone, i.e. a triatomic molecule. This molecule is quite unstable, and when it breaks down, it produces a diatomic oxygen molecule and one unpaired oxygen atom, which looks to enter a chemical reaction.
If it hits another unpaired oxygen atom, it produces a diatomic molecule, but if it hits any other substance, it starts to react with it. This is when, for example, viruses, bacteria and fungi are killed. As mentioned, not every unpaired oxygen atom will be able to kill us a virus or bacteria, therefore, for ozonation to be effective, it must be carried out in the right way, and above all it comes down to two main factors, i.e. to create the right concentration of ozone and to ensure in a room with adequate circulation.
What is important to meet for ozonation to be effective?
The two main factors that affect the effectiveness of ozonation have been mentioned above. We must focus on them if we ozonize an office or apartment, because otherwise ozonation will not be effective and may give us a false sense of security. Of course, these two mentioned factors are broken down into several smaller ones that we must meet.
In the first case, it was mentioned that we need to ensure a sufficient concentration of ozone in the room. Therefore, we must seal the room as much as possible so that ozone does not escape from this room. In addition, we should use ozonators that are adapted to the volume of the room. Thanks to this, first of all, ozonation will last quite a short time. The third factor that we must meet is the issue of measuring ozone concentration. It is best to ozonise using an ozone sensor that will indicate that the ozone level in the room is already optimal. If, of course, we do not have such a detector, we can use various types of ozonation table, but they require that the ozonized room is maximally well prepared for the ozonation process.
The second factor, i.e. proper ozone distribution, requires the use of fans. Ozone is a gas heavier than air, so it will be automatically produced heavier than air, so it will settle near the floor. If we do not use appropriate fans, ozonation in the entire volume will not be effective.
